Upcoming Event: Celebrate Biodiversity Through Genetics & Education!

In celebration of the International Day for Biological Diversity, the DNA Learning Center (DNALC) Nigeria is proud to announce a highly anticipated webinar titled “Genetic Frontiers for Biodiversity: Preserving Life, Advancing Knowledge.” The virtual event, slated for Friday, May 23, 2025, promises to be a thought-provoking exploration of how genetic literacy and biotechnology education are shaping the future of biodiversity conservation and sustainable development in Nigeria and beyond.
To be anchored by our lead instructor, Nnenna Itodo, this eye-opening event will bring together a distinguished panel including the Chairman Board of Trustees, Prof. George Ude, our Deputy Director, Mr. Michael Okoro, and our Cordinator of Tranings and Workshops, Florence Mgbodile.
The webinar aligns with the global observance of May 22 as the International Day for Biological Diversity, reinforcing the urgent call for harmony with nature and innovative approaches to ecosystem preservation.
Unpacking the DNA of Biodiversity
Divided into six interactive segments, the webinar will feature expert discussions, case studies, and audience participation sessions.
Segment Spotlights:
-
“Biodiversity Begins at the Molecular Level” – A session exploring how genetic diversity ensures ecosystem resilience and the critical role of science education in fostering sustainable action among youth.
-
“From Genes to Green” – A deep dive into how genetic tools support Sustainable Development Goals, from agriculture and health to climate resilience.
-
DNALC Nigeria in Retrospect – A showcase of the Center’s achievements, including student-led DNA barcoding projects, outreach through mobile genetics labs, and collaborations with schools and institutions nationwide.
A Call to Action
In addition to stimulating scientific discussion, the webinar will serve as a launchpad for DNALC Nigeria’s upcoming DNA Forensics workshop, encouraging participation from students, educators, researchers, and policy advocates.
The final segment will open the floor for audience interaction, resource distribution, and strategic discussions on how attendees can become active contributors to the biodiversity and biotechnology movement.
Who Should Attend?
The event targets:
-
Secondary and tertiary school students
-
Educators, scientists, and researchers
-
Policymakers in environment, education, and health
-
NGOs and biodiversity champions
-
General science enthusiasts and sustainability advocates
